In my case, I use painting to re-tell the story of art of the past combined with more personal themes.
My woods interiors are filtered through my youth in the rural south, exploring nature and fort-building. These experiences layer over the work of Ni Zan, a Chinese artist who used trees as metaphors for the courageous men who stood up against an oppressive regime.
