Having driven to the mountains in North Carolina, I was plein-air painting with the Charlotte Plein Air Painter group. Suddenly rain, cold and fog came in, not making it a great plein-air day and I was not properly dressed so I moved inside to the warmth and quickly painted this warm scene of absent chess players. This painting was accepted into the juried American Impressionist Exhibition.
