"Noise Field #1 (2019)" uses the monsoon rain passing through a 2D laser plane to create a field of noise. Installed at Silverlens gallery in Manila and activated at night when it rains. A combination of natural and electrical systems, a 2D slice of a 3D noise field.
"Noise Field 1b (2020)" is a special commission for Art Fair PH with AC Motors organized by Silverlens Galleries:
Two laser scanners create intersecting planes of light, with a water system spraying mist that sparkles as it passes through. Visitors could enter the water-proof booth and walk around the generated noise fields that floated in front of them.
James Clar’s work is an analysis and observation on the affects of media and technology on our perceptions of culture, nationality, and identity. He experiments with light as a medium to further uncover its potential for artistic narratives. For his presentation in partnership with AC Motors, James Clar creates a laser and liquid installation titled “Noise Field”. Using a laserscanner and a sprinkler system, Clar creates a naturally generated field of visual static. Visitors are invited to step into “Noise Field” to experience what happens when these lasers cross paths with the fine mist.
Unique to the space it is installed in
