A video projection piece that uses a small pico projector mounted to the wall. The video is of the light switch in James’ studio, and is projected at the same size as the light switch; creating a virtual version of itself. In the video James turns On and Off the studio lights, causing the projected image to appear and disappear. Additionally, James blinks the lights using a Morse Code pattern to spell his name. Making the piece itself the artist’s signature.

The work references James’ use of light and technology as an expressive medium, and the use of art to create an alternate reality. By focusing on the switch he centers on a simple tool that can control our everyday visual reality, but re-creates it as a light projection.
