This mountain range is just a short distance from where I live, and I love the way it looks so different depending on the time of day, or weather pattern, or specific viewpoint. I have a feeling I'll be doing many more looks at the beauty!

I make a regular practice of painting "en plein air", painting on location with a smaller easel and watercolor kit. While I love the spontaneity and freshness of these paintings, I also deeply appreciate the work I'm able to do later in the studio. This painting began in the field as a much smaller sketch. And then over the next couple of days, I was able to make this larger version in the much more controlled environment of the studio.
