MessageCollection: B.. Innuendos- Mixed Media/ Hand Quilted
In this series, the artist continues to find inspiration in architecture and man-made objects, as well as in the natural world and the intersection of the two. The use of digital manipulation on the photographs adds a layer of complexity and originality to the works. It develops a strong conversation between the past and the present, pushing the boundaries of convention. The hand-quilting process used on the cotton-printed photographs reveals patience and dedication to crafting truly unique surface textures. The works brim with creativity, embodying a seamless blend of traditional craft techniques and modern digital manipulation, an innovative and unique intersection between technology and handicraft.
Although all of the images that I create from my original photographs are manipulated in the computer before I commit them to a work, I am often conflicted about how much abstraction I want to employ. A fascination with the detail in the subject depicted vies with the personal emotional component conveyed in the abstraction. This conflict resonates with the poem by Wallace Stevens…
“I do not know which to prefer,
The beauty of inflections
Or the beauty of innuendos,
The blackbird whistling
Or just after.”
