This small painting was so enjoyable to create. I loved the process of building a background with long horizontal brushstrokes, then adding the Australian Sky Blue Matisse flow acrylic to the surface, finding shapes as I went along. This type of excavation process is often found in my art practice. There is satisfaction in not knowing what I am about to uncover until I am actually there doing it. I love that it is not preplanned, but in the moment. It allows me to stay present and calm.
This work was named after imagining all the tears I shed since the pandemic begun. It was also a show of gratitude to those who provided a container for my tears; my partner Steve, family, friends, my therapist Kathy Troupe, my supervisor Neil Maizels, my Naturopath Nicole Woodcock, my Osteopath Laurence Garneau, my Kinesiologist Nareeda Thomson, gallerist Dale Falkner and drum teacher Steve Pope.
