Originally started as a plein air painting on site at the old homestead of Benny Ambrose, Ottertrack Lake in the BWCAW, MN. Finished just now in the studio. Yes, I hauled my painting supplies into the woods on my solo Boundary Waters adventure! I have a deep affinity and love of this place. Benny Ambrose was a character. Not only that, he was one of the last people to homestead in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The Forest Service wanted him out, but Benny said no way- he'd fight them if he had to! They left him alone. He passed away on his lake across from the Canadian border in 1982. The Canadian side has a plaque on the cliff face in memory of him.
