Born to Dutch dairy farmers in LA, lived life cross-culturally, especially in Africa , now pursuing my first love, making art.
MessageWhen I was a late teen, I was living in a commune located near an army base, with soldiers just back from Viet Nam or on their way there.
We had a surprisingly gifted band that sounded a lot like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and we invited soldiers back to our place for music, food, and hope.
And after every meal, we needed volunteers to do the dishes.
Whenever I volunteered, this one guy would volunteer. I thought he must love to do dishes!
We ended up getting married. I was all of nineteen. We'’ve been companions now for half a century and have had a life full of adventures.
He still does the dishes–although, as you might have guessed, it wasn’’t the dishwashing that attracted him.
