I usually just begin. This time I tried something different. I started with a title. A long title:
"I HAVE BETTER THINGS
TO DO WITH MY HEART."
I was walking in the woods in early March and noticed leaves falling. Further investigation proved that the fresh buds were forcing out the straggler leaves. The leaves that refused to drop last fall when their colors faded. The leaves that hung on through winter's cold and wind and rain. Dead leaves that remained beyond their seasons.
Stunned, I asked myself what dead things were lingering in my life? What am I hanging on to that has died and I just refuse to see?
This is a painting about letting go and making room for the new. Making room for life.
