Originally inspired by the many "readers" in the history of painting, I decided to do my own version. This reader is an inspirational self-portrait of one aspect of who I hope to be someday. This man is sitting in his library surrounded by volumes on history, theology, literature and popular fiction. He looks up from the most read, most published book of all time, the christian bible.
The drawing is filled with symbolic tropes from the history of art as well as a few of my own, a wilting flower and a skull speak of death, the small cracked sculpture of the thinker speak of the limits of knowledge and the sometimes flawed nature of mankind's wisdom, the rubiks cube speaks of the complexity of knowledge.
