Gunnar Norquist grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota the latest in a long line of Swedish carpenters. At the age of 9, his mother signed him up for drawing lessons. Ever since then he has pursued art as an exploration of the observable world and an expression of his own internal journey through that world.
In addition to making art, Gunnar is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys camping, hiking, and boating. He takes annual backpacking trips to the White mountains and beyond. The only thing he loves more than being outdoors is sharing that love with friends and family.
Gunnar has a bachelor’s degree in studio art from the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minnesota and an MFA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of design in Providence, Rhode Island. He has exhibited work in Minneapolis, Providence, New York, and Paris.
Gunnar Norquist lives in Providence with his wife, 3 children and their family dog.
