This early piece is one of the few oil paintings I have done. Even back then I was playing with textures and nontraditional objects. I used a palette knife to heavily lay down paint and drew the figure by just squeezing out the paint from the tube. I built the frame from old driftwood. A penny was pressed into the paint and held as the paint is on so thick. The penny is "actual size" hence the name which is a backhanded reference to Magritte's "The Treachery of Images" the "This is not a pipe" painting. I have always loved both the humor and depth of his work.
