MessageThis textile and found object sculpture has allusions to a snake, van Gogh's sunflower, and an eye. I chose the fire hose to represent transformation and internal chaos versus control. The snake and van Gogh allusion represent being misunderstood. The wire bounces with touch or a fan and it connects the flower (kombucha scoby and upcycled leather) to the piece. The bouncing signifies that people and nature can rebound. Scoby is a thick, rubbery mass that forms when one ferments sweet tea. When dried, it becomes a vegan leather that one can sew on, stretch, and attach. The round flower sits in a square box; around the box is Red Columbia Boa skin, naturally molted from Celia, my friend's snake, which my friend rescued from a stripper who had used the Boa in her act; the stripper fell on hard times and could no longer care for the snake.
