Gail Hoban
Saffron Walden, Essex
Gail draws trees, lichen, fungi and native wild plants and the resilience of overlooked nature with a ballpoint pen to communicate about land and nature access.
MessageWhere does study end and abstract start? This ballpoint drawing of a bracket fungus in Epping Forest was a study in texture and markmaking a meditative process tracing the growth of the tree and the fungi.
Using Japanese Washi paper a very smooth and fragile paper helped the pen to flow, moving back and forth, building dense shadow areas and lighter touches for highlights.
