Peg Lyon
Margaret “Peg” Lyon Green (1770-1830) lived her entire life in Greenwich and represents the genesis of our ancestral lineage. Peg was tri-racial, with Munsee Lenape, East and West African ancestry on her maternal side, and British ancestry on her paternal side. Her children—Charles Merritt, Jack Husted, Anthony Jr., Platt, Allan, Henry, Solomon Green, Sarah Lyon, Patty, Tamer, Phila, and Peg—stand as testaments to her enduring legacy. While details of her family remain elusive, we know Peg was descended from a Lyon and bore children fathered by Edward Felmetta, Nathan Merritt Jr., and Anthony Green.
With each stride towards freedom, Peg paved the way for future generations. From enslavement to liberation, she left a legacy of resilience. Enslavement, genocide, and dispossession could never sever the collective identity carried forward by her descendants
