Tossing and turning,
insomnia takes hold,
one day, two, three—
the hours stretch, and sleep evades me.

I read that the brain, in response to strain,
swells with its own substances,
inflammation creeping through its very fabric.

On the canvas,
all I see are inflamed minds—
pulsing, swollen,
fighting the restless night.
