Medusa is most often depicted as a violent and angry creature, but in the early mythologies, we learn that she was the victim of assault and the petty whims of the Gods. Her lair is filled with her "victims," but had they not ventured to her home to kill her, they wouldn't have fallen to her gaze. I depicted her here, mournful of the ongoing battle to survive. She lies on the floor of her home, which is covered in a swirling mosaic that represents the heavens and oceans and how she is trapped between the Gods that rule them.
