A portrait doesn't have to be a close-up of a face; in fact, I like best the portraits that show people in their favorite environment. For me, this is part of the portrait story: who we are, what we enjoy doing, where our skills lie. This tells the future viewer the most complete story of some aspect of our lives. And for some sitters, it's also a more comfortable, less formal way to see themselves depicted.
