Another piece from a new and ongoing series of works where my primary influence is from the old fortification plans of Maréchal Vauban (1633-1707), the French general and engineer who planned the defences of some 160 strategic towns and coastal sites in France, plus more in other countries. This artwork is on 'Arches Platine' cold-pressed paper using Conté crayon for the drawing which was overlaid with a collage of 'angles' cut from an old French map and a 19th century newspaper to represent Vauban's defensive walls.
