Art Quilts
My Art Quilts always have three layers. Two layers of fabric and one layer of batting. I use commercial and hand dyed fabrics. I personally dye most of my hand dyed and over dyed fabrics. I use a variety of threads, fibers, buttons and beads. A combination of machine stitching, free motion machine stitching and hand embroidery is used in each creation.
At Home
At Home is a collection of thread paintings that were created during the Pandemic of 2020 while the artist was sheltering at home. It is the artist's belief that joy can be found in ordinary things on ordinary days even during a pandemic! There are 30 pieces in this collection. They are not all visible on this site.
The artist is planning to exhibit this collection as part of a group show this summer. At this point none of the artwork in this collection is for sale . Many pieces will be available for purchase in the future.
Thread Paintings
My Thread Paintings all start as a piece of tightly woven percale cotton that is backed with a lofty wool batting. I drop the feed dogs on my sewing machine and use a free motion stitching technique where the fabric can move freely in all directions. I start with my darkest color thread and build up to my lightest color. I use a variety of cotton, silk and polyester threads. Superior threads are my favorite. Hand embroidery is used for finishing and detail work .
