In May of 2023, a star that exploded ages ago was spotted in an arm of the Pinwheel Galaxy. The Pinwheel Galaxy is a spiral galaxy that we look "face on" and see the full view. It is item number 101 in the Messier catalog. If you look carefully, you'll notice a bright white star in the upper middle of the photograph. That is the supernova. I spent two days gathering 6 hours of total exposure to capture the supernova. A rare event indeed! I processed the data to create this unique image that doesn't exist anywhere else - the versions on my website are a different pass at the same data. This is the second print with this data.
