The first full moon of February is known as the snow moon. The moon's surface has subtle coloring caused by variations in the types of visible mineral deposits, but it is washed out by the brightness of the sunlight that is reflected. Long exposures with filters can reveal these subtle colors and create an image known as a "mineral moon." This extremely high-resolution photograph was taken with a Sony A7R IV 60-megapixel camera through a telescope with a focal length of 2,350mm (2.35 meters).
