Douglas Gilbert creates graphite and charcoal drawings that explore perception, spatial tension, and the gradual emergence of form through line.
MessageHere, the path narrows as vertical forms gather more densely along its edges, suggesting a space that is both entered and resisted. I use the accumulation of lines to create areas that feel close and enclosing, where the viewer moves through rather than simply looks at the landscape. The image develops through this tension, where depth and proximity are constantly shifting.
