From the pages of Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, this still life depicts silver pieces-of-eight, antique globe turned to the Caribbean, the book itself, and a parrot thought to be the one which inspired the famous author to create Long John Silver's companion Polly. To my knowledge only one drawing of this unknown species of parrot exists other than this painting, and that done in the early 19th century from a taxidermy specimen in the British Museum. The bird was declared extinct before it could even be given a proper name by the science community. Framed in a modest black frame.
