Cloud Dance
Looking up through a tangle of branches toward the open sky shifts how we perceive our place in the world. My current paintings explore this specific, vertical vantage point—the transitional realm of birds, clouds, and shifting light. Working with oil on canvas and wood panels, the focus is on creating a sense of grounded immersion. The goal is to collapse the distance between the viewer and the canvas, inviting a physical recollection of what it feels like to lie on one’s back and look straight up into the atmosphere.
By anchoring the compositions with the heavy geometry of the tree canopy against the fluid expanse of blue and white, the work balances weight and weightlessness. This dialogue between the wood or canvas substrate and the open air mimics our own relationship with the earth. Ultimately, these paintings serve as quiet entry points back into the natural environment, offering a space to breathe and look upward.
EMERGENCE
The Emergence Series explores how beauty and elegance are magically emergent from disorder and chaos. This is not only evident on the surface of the vibrant oil pigments, but also implied with a simple line drawing AR (augmented reality) component which can be seen through one’s hand held device.
REGRESSENCE
Set against a filed of the blackest black pigment, the subjects seem to float in an infinite void. The blackest black paint is used to create a stunning effect. Oil and carbon nanotube pigment on plywood panel, black wood frame integral with surface.
Standing Stones
A pastoral landscape of standing stones and a stream, mountains beyond, sheep grazing, all seen as a pixilated grid as if through machine eyes. Square block clouds float in a blue checkered sky. Everything is counted in prime numbers. Framed in a contemporary black square edged wood frame.
