One sunset last year in Gloucester, I was sitting on a deck, sketching and enjoying the view with friends. There is a lot of “view” in Gloucester if you enjoy boats. It was more like urban sketching as the town is built around the water. I sketched out this painting watching these guys unload at sunset, ready to get home. The light was great, settling in for a sunset between the buildings. To me, it streaming through the windows and bouncing off the fish. At least that is the romantic way that I saw it. My friends say different. But I am the painter so I got to paint it my way. It is the flow of the light I wanted to catch with this painting, trying to catch that feeling of a long day and a moment in time as that day came to an end.
