Point of View, Beacon Marine Limited Edition of 25
'Point of View, Beacon Marine' captures the perspective above the old smokehouse at Beacon Marine Basin, looking toward Rocky Neck in Gloucester Harbor.
"For me, the (Beacon Marine) building itself stands as a testament to the power and prosperity of Gloucester's fishing industry. I knew from the start that its enormity would lend the design an appearance of simplicity, much like an early travel poster depicting a scenic location. The extensive use of whites made this woodcut a challenge. The result is a straightforward yet complex arrangement of vessels and architecture." ~ Don Gorvett
Today, Don lives and works at the Beacon Marine Basin, one of the last remaining warehouses from the past century. The woodcut is hand-inked, cut, and printed by Don in his studio. This reduction woodcut, along with others of this size and number of colors, took several months of studio work.
