Taking the Path Least Traveled
Woodblock - price on request
Taking the Path Least Traveled depicts the old concrete retaining wall behind the Bow Street buildings, which protects the riverbank from the strong currents of the Piscataqua River. When the initial drawing for this woodcut was created, Don was standing behind the original Martingale building, looking toward Ceres Street. You can see a restaurant deck and the three Moran tugs docked at their homeport.
The woodblock is fir plywood. The woodblocks are cut skillfully and with great care. Much of what intrigues Don about this process is that the disciplines of drawing and sculpting come together, all while thinking in color, like a painter. Don’s sense of visual beauty extends to the texture and surface of the block as it does to the print.
*Price on request - woodblocks are for purchase along with the purchase of the woodcut print they made. Prices are posted on the exhibit’s web page. Please use the QR code above for access
