This is a nocturnal view of Ceres Street and Portsmouth Harbor from the riverbank behind Bow Street’s brick buildings. The Moran tugs sit safely in their home dock. The artist’s Portsmouth studio and gallery are in the brick buildings with the moon high above. The original drawing was done in the 1990s before 100 Market Street was built. Today, one can see the top floor of the structure just above the Market Street warehouses. Don was purposefully using brighter colors in his pallet, which is evident in other reduction woodcuts done at this time. This reduction woodcut is a very good example of Don's interest in architecture that has evolved along the shorelines of New England's working harbors.
