I have always been enamored by the Impressionist painters and their works. When I found a book on so-called ‘watercolor’ art quilts, I immediately wanted to create several artworks in this technique. So, from my stash of fabrics, I started cutting squares in various fabrics, looking to find similar colors to Monet’s many paintings of his garden theme. This process involved hours and hours of cutting and sorting the squares. I then had to proportionately design the draft to create the chosen image of the garden. The designing took several months, and the sewing took another month. I wanted the trees to stand out. What if I painted with acrylic on top of the finished wall hanging? With lots of trepidation and paint brush in hand, I dove into the task of highlighting the trees. The artwork could have been ruined with one wrong stroke! Fortunately, I was focused, and the experiment was successful. Monet’s Garden at Giverny was the inspiration.
