Eurasian Eagle Owl, watercolor on 140lb paper. The Eurasian Eagle Owl (*Bubo bubo*) is one of the largest and most imposing owls in the world, with a wingspan that can reach up to 188 centimeters and a body length of nearly 75 centimeters. Its plumage is a rich, tawny-brown mottled with dark streaks and spots, providing excellent camouflage against rocky outcrops and forest backdrops. Perhaps its most striking features are its enormous, vivid orange eyes — which grant it exceptional low-light vision — and the prominent ear tufts that rise dramatically from its head, giving it a fierce, almost regal appearance. Built for power, it has massive, heavily feathered talons capable of taking down surprisingly large prey, including foxes, hares, and other birds of prey. Its deep, resonant call — a low, booming *"bu-ho"* — echoes across its habitat, which spans a vast range from Western Europe and Scandinavia all the way across Asia. Highly adaptable, it inhabits mountain ranges, dense forests, open countryside, and even semi-desert regions, nesting on rocky ledges or in the abandoned nests of other large birds. It is truly one of nature's most formidable and awe-inspiring predators.
