(Darinka Villaseñor Zugasti - México, 1997)
I grew up in the outskirts of the mighty Mexico City in a calm environment surrounded by woods and small animals that came across my home. As I exited childhood I was thrown into a gloomy realism of the alienated society I was slowly learning to inhabit. It took long years to rescue the disposition to navigate once more that curiosity stream that eventually became a way out of the fog, leading me from wonders to nightmares and showing me pieces of the truth I never thought could exist.
Today, I appreciate the World from a thousand eyes. Along my artistic career I have nurtured myself from the variety of my own vulnerable experiences, by reading about different cultures so much as embracing my own, traveling, connecting with people, and hearing about what our fascinating stories have o whisper to me.
In constant healing, exploration and search for inspiration I try to capture the range of human experience upon its ever-present spiritual background. These antidotes, I believe, safeguard the essence and purpose of our existence. We all have a particular way of dealing with what Life has to throw at us, but each one of us essentially struggles to step away from the cages that can trap our perceptions inside particular points of view. All around, this is what I've seen to hurt the most. As an artist, I seek to invite people to step out and reintegrate whatever feelings or questions come into them through my subtle suggestions.
I stay thirsty for fresh perspectives and learning alternate ways of living. Nevertheless I put my primary source of inspiration close to me; the Natural World as the centering piece of my puzzle. From there I will continue to share my insights, experiences and observations to reach other beings.
Statement
The relationship between nature and humanity has intrigued and marveled me in the same measure. I chose visual arts and writing from an early age and an innocent heart to create images for what remained otherwise invisible; energies, feelings and tribulations. Throughout my work I capture all kinds of sensations, social concepts, questions, troubles... With my pictorial scenes I try to widen the concepts that civilization deals with in every-day life, as well as others that can typically go unnoticed...Images, whether they are mental or pictorial, are as strong as they are free to transform... delivering people the vision they need to see in each particular moment.
