Mayor's Art Show 2023

Hannah Austin is a fabric collage embroidery artist specializing in landscapes. Inspired after a cross-country move in 2018, most of her artwork is influenced heavily by the great vistas of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Hannah's expertise in hand sewing and embroidery are precious gifts from her grandmother, but she only started pursuing art professionally in 2020. She strives to utilize inherited and secondhand fabric scraps in her pieces to minimize textile waste. Hannah is also a vocal, active member of the fiber arts community, particularly on social media where she has garnered a substantial following. Hannah uses her platform to deconstruct the patriarchal narrative that diminishes many women-centric handicrafts and advocates for quilting, embroidery and other textiles arts to be valued as fine art.
