In these challenging times, our true superheroes aren’t those with capes and masks, but the migrant workers who labor tirelessly in the fields. During the pandemic, while many were safe at home, these essential workers continued to harvest the food that feeds us all, often at great personal risk. Their strength, resilience and unwavering commitment make them the unsung heroes of our society.

This piece is a collaboration between the art of Hampton Rodriguez and the sociological research of Sofia Carpenter-Rodriguez. It blends visual representation with sociological insights to highlight the vital role of migrant workers. Imagine a migrant worker as a superhero, standing tall with a cape made of crops and tools in hand, symbolizing their indispensable contributions. Their heroism lies not in supernatural powers, but in their dedication to ensuring our food supply remains steady, even in a global crisis.

We should admire these workers with the same reverence we reserve for fictional superheroes. By recognizing their efforts and treating them with the respect they deserve, we celebrate the real-life heroes who sustain us every day.
