Oil painting
I have painted several portraits of Comanche Chief Quanah Parker who fought valiantly but unsuccessfully to stop white expansion into Comanche territory in what is now northwestern Texas. Until his death in 1911, Parker remained a leader of Native people, leading delegations to Washington DC to advocate for Native rights. In this painting I give a nod to his home in Texas, built after his people were forced to settle and become farmers. Parker allowed a white settler to graze cattle on his land in exchange for that rancher building him a large house. In the agreement, Parker stipulated that the house be painted with multiple stars, which some say he did as a sign of respect for American generals and the stars on their uniforms.
