Artist: Yvonne Stubbs
Yvonne Stubbs is a multidisciplinary artist based in Oregon whose work explores the rich intersections of Black and Native American identity. Born and raised in Portland, she draws deeply from her family history — her mother, a Vanport flood survivor, and her grandparents, Black Freedmen from Oklahoma with roots in both African and Native cultures. Their experiences on reservations and in the shipyards of Portland and Alaska shape the stories she tells through painting, sculpture, music and storytelling. Yvonne holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and sculpture, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Oregon. Her work honors resilience, memory and cultural legacy, offering layered narratives rooted in personal and ancestral experience.
