Artist: Christine Paige
The beauty of nature, particularly birds and human beings, inspires Christine. Initially, she sculpted figurative pieces in clay, then expanded to learn metal skills and the lost wax process to create bronze sculptures. She is deeply grateful for the outstanding faculty at Lane Community College who have mentored her over the years. Along the way her work has become less representational and more abstract, simpler in form but more complex in concept. She is fascinated with the forms that repeat in nature and the human figure.
Carving stone is Christine's current joy; stone's striations and translucence intrigue her. She creates tension between heavy weight and an illusion of lightness, between solid matter and flowing gesture. She is a member of the Northwest Stone Sculptor's Association, a community of dedicated, supportive sculptors who always inspire her.
Abstracted form invites viewers into a conversation that presents more questions than it answers. They make their own interpretations, and Christine hopes her work will bring them amount of intrigue or refreshment.
