FireHorse 26 - Oil and Wax on Canvas | 2026 --FireHorse 26 is forged in the fever-heat of transformation and the quiet dissolution of the self. The canvas breathes like something alive. The red here is not merely colour it is atmosphere and cosmological force, evoking the raw, untameable energy of the Fire Horse, a figure in Chinese astrology that appears only once every sixty years and carries with it a reputation for brilliance, volatility, and singular power. This year has already exhibited all of these attributes within the first 3 months for me. Since I paint music, The influence of Brambles' In the Androgynous Dark is unmistakable in the work's internal tension, that piece's signature quality of internal tension, of existing between states, between light and shadow, waking and dreaming. While the red for me exemplifies space it does also seem to represent the fire while the cool blue in the middle is the calm or maybe it is the eye of the storm. This is painting as threshold experience. Stand inside the year itself, inside the music, inside the moment when an artist decides to begin again.
