New Humans: Introspection

This body of work is an ongoing series on people that feel Othered by society for their differences and visual expression of my gaze upon them while examining my own lived Otherness in society. At times, the works are self portraits of my own Othered life expression and in others the bodies and feeling of composites of individuals I have interviewed and studied to bring their stories and history to the mainstream. Overall, these are self portraits at various moments of my life.

New Humans: The Others

This body of work is an ongoing series on people that feel Othered by society for their differences. I include myself in these works as I feel Othered as well but I allow the gradient colors in the background sum up the emotion of the center figure. DO you understand how colors and emotion are connected? Do you understand the shape of tears and how they differ based on each emotion felt. This explores how those that are Othered feel both inwardly and the aura that exudes in various moments of their lives.

Typographic Graffiti Explorations - One Offs

Many of these works are sold to private collectors, commissions, while some were temporary public art installations and one off creations.

“Scenes from Life” - Digital to Silk Organza Works

This was my first official foray into digital collage art based on my own create analog elements. The back grounds for these images are typographic hand graffiti on canvas or plexiglass. Those were photographed. Then I sourced open, free imagery from the Smithsonian Museum archive of historic black images and mixed with imagery of people I’ve met or asked permission of hairstylist found on the web to use the image. I assembled the digital collage from all these analog sources. After I printed these digital collages on semitransparent silk to float suspended in spaces for public viewing.
