love being outdoors, it grounds me to the earth and helps me be on my body and experience life from my heart and my gut. Dragging my fingertips on the top of the water, recovering from a small downhill slide while descending a mountain peak, paddleboarding on a deep mysterious ocean fill my soul with curiosity, promote courage, and fuel my creativity.
No matter how conceptual my art can be, I use my story and post traumatic growth to share and help others, it consistently circles back to landscape. An ocean horizon, a riverbank on the Colorado river, an arial view of the earth come to mind.
My affection for the outdoors and outdoor activities stems from bike rides and beach walks with my grandfather DB Cotton, who noted when looking at the surf “the world’s best psychiatrist.” And also my father, Jim Cotton, who taught me the exhilaration and joy that pushing oneself to climb mountains or ski their terrain yields.
