Artist Statement:
Time confounds and eludes me when I start to think about it. I am a master of misunderstanding what can be done or organized by myself in a specific amount of time.
Recently I have learned about different ways of understanding time as 360 °, quantum physics, time & space reality which intrigues me. It is hard to digest that my 8-year-old self and my 80 year old self exist.
My painting represents linear time or my day to day relationship with timeand time space
reality/quantum physics. The two squares [large shapes] depict these two concepts.
The red represents space-time which contains the entire history of reality, with each past, present or future event occupying a clearly determined place in it, from the very beginning and forever. The past would therefore still exist, just as the future already exists, but somewhere other than where we are now present.
The thought of extending my painting off the canvas signifies [demonstrates] both my inability to understand what I can produce in a predetermined amount of time in the linear construct. Rather than invoking the anxiety I feel , I hope its flow stands for self-acceptance and patience I have with myself.
Lastly, the black area in the composition is a nod to the idea of soul contracts. A soul contract is an agreement we enter with another soul(s) prior to deciding to incarnate. During these prenatal meetings, human souls negotiate agreements to collaborate and develop further on Earth. During our time on Earth, we feel the greatest when we’re around individuals with whom we have shared soul agreements. There are, however, some connections that cause us unendurable agony in order to assist us progress in life. Both love and distress exist in these connections.
