The Arvin J. Alexander Memorial is located in the Batelle Riverfront Park behind the Federal Courthouse at 199 West Long Street.
Sculpted in 1991, the memorial commemorates the lawyer and politician Arvin J. Alexander. It is adorned with a plaque that reads, “To honor and preserve the memory of a complete and true friend of Columbus, distinguished lawyer and president of city council he worked unceasingly and selflessly to promote the best interests of his beloved city by generating respectful, non-partisan consensus. Determined man of vision, Arvin Alexander typified the spirit of Columbus.”
In 1983 the artist, Carl Faehnle, also sculpted the “In Tribute to Columbus Police Officers” memorial located at the Columbus Police Academy.
This memorial is constructed of pink granite in an abstract form consisting of three vertical elements, each having acute angles extending upward and downward. The center element gives the appearance of being buried in the concrete base. this element is highly polished while the side elements are in matte finish. The river side is highly polished.
