After working with the local community in a series of workshops, Sioux Tempestt presented the mural concepts. The initial storytelling workshop enabled community members to share stories about themselves, their families, place and experiences within the local area.
The common thread which was evident in these stories was the lure of the beach as an attraction for living in the local area, both currently and in the past.
The coastline serves as a constant attraction for locals as a place of enjoyment, connection, family time and fishing. The artist created 31 hand cut stencils based on the designs from the workshops and by making her own discoveries at the local beach and researching more stories and photographs online. The murals serve as a discovery trail as people journey through the spaces.
