Mia Schoen’s work investigates the contemporary urban landscape, using notions of the Australian ‘dream’ home and the quarter acre blocks to the constructed panorama of the new estate.
Mia’s work reflects her interest in new built environments and living spaces. In 1994 she visited Joondalup and produced a series of woodcuts based on the unfinished housing and superstructure there. The ‘New Estate’ series developed from return trips to Joondalup. New Estate II depicts Waldorf Ramble in Currambine in the mid 90s.
