Gosia Wlodarczak’s work deals with the fear of the unknown and communication difficulties caused by the confusion of living with her two spoken languages, Polish and English. Unpredictable moments occur during which one is not able to communicate in words, effectively creating a ‘space’ between languages.
Wlodarczak reworks this space through a constant drawing process. Her hand and circumstances accidentally form these marks. Holding no hierarchy of importance, the equality of line or mark is one of the principles in her drawing. To obtain this effect, Wlodarczak uses an architect’s drawing tool or pigment markers, which give the line same width and weight.
