This work explores the fictionalized space. Using images from home décor magazines as a point of departure, David Ledger introduces unrealistic architecture and objects that disobey the logic of realistic lighting, or float in suspended animation. This painting engages viewers on an affective level, in the way a memory or dream might, creating a palpable sense of mood and atmosphere.

David Ledger studied at Curtin University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2010. Ledger’s artistic practice is grounded in the disciplines of painting and drawing, working with representational, figurative imagery and use of traditional painting media and techniques. Ledger’s work is held in private collections in Australia, South Africa, Indonesia and The United States.

This work was acquired during the Community Invitation Art Award, 2014.
