This collaborative work by Rodney Glick and Lynnette Voevodin depicts a patchwork of suburban garage doors in North Perth, which were compiled from individual digital photos of unique garages documented over 6-months. Living locally, the artists spent time wandering the streets of North Perth, often at night. These walks fostered a fascination of their local suburb and the intriguing differences of the garages.
The work offers an insight into the garages of North Perth homes in 2001 at a time of rapid change in the Perth suburbs. The unique laneway garages prominent in the suburb sit away from the general public’s eye, and often only noticeable to those who spend time in the suburb, walking the back streets and keenly observing the space around them. The artwork encourages viewers to consider the differences in the spaces around them and how they engage with their suburb.
