‘Egyptians II’ is from series of works by the late Brian McKay, exploring iconic shapes and images. The abstract, geometric shapes are linked to the process of mark making and paring the image down to the essentials.

‘Egyptians II’ is constructed on aluminum which has been etched, worked by hand and then sealed. The use of aluminum was inspired by the materials used in McKay’s public artwork. For McKay, aluminum had a softness and sensuousness, responding to the marks and carvings made on it. The process of cutting into the surface changes the way that it reflects the light giving the work a subtle, ambient colour.
