This mural was commissioned as part of the Art Beat mural program in the 2024 Joondalup Festival.

Doondalup / The Lake That Glistens is a visual representation of the unseen underground lake systems that run from Perth to Joondalup. This underground system of lakes is a keystone of Perth’s ecosystem. It surfaces every so often to form wetlands such as Doondalup / Lake Joondalup and Galup / Lake Monger.

The Noongar people have lived alongside these wetlands for millennia, flourishing off the ecosystem it provides. The artwork is scattered with animal tracks, campsites and resting places providing a reminder of how the Noongar people lived in harmony with this ecosystem.
